Your Guide to the L.M.D System

A modern educational system aimed at modernizing Algerian universities and facilitating student mobility and international recognition of university degrees.

System Objectives:
  • Organize training offerings in the form of academic cycles that allow students to benefit from support and guidance.

  • Improve educational quality and information, guidance, and support for students.

  • Develop the professionalization of higher education.

  • Enhance skills learning in curricula (foreign languages, information technology).

  • Benefit from exchange and recognition of diplomas at the international level.

Three-Degree Structure

The LMD system is based on three fundamental educational stages (License, Master's, Doctorate), designed to meet the needs of the job market and scientific research.

License Degree

Baccalaureate + 3 years. Culminates in an academic or professional License degree.

  • First Phase: Extends for a maximum of two semesters to familiarize with the university

  • Second Phase: Extends for a minimum of two semesters to deepen knowledge and guide the student.

  • Third Phase: This is the specialization phase and deepening in chosen fields.

Master's Degree

Baccalaureate + 5 years. Culminates in a Master’s degree in two different specializations.

  • Professional Master's: Distinguished by obtaining broader training in a field and maintains a professional orientation

  • Academic Master's: Distinguished by preparing professionals for scientific research and qualifies them for research activity.

Doctorate Degree

Baccalaureate + 8 years. After three years of in-depth research.

  • The minimum training duration is 6 semesters.

  • Includes deepening knowledge in the specialization and research training.

  • Developing readiness to practice research and the sense of social work.
